77% primary schools lack required number of specialized teachers

Pune : Recent Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan data uploaded by the Union government has thrown light on the poor state of affairs concerning the teaching staff in primary classes of aided schools in Maharashtra.

The data revealed that 77% schools do not have enough subject-wise teachers to educate the primary students till class VIII. There are 44,735 standalone schools (classes IV) and 20,989 elementary schools (classes I-VIII) in the state. Read the rest of this entry »

Many teachers across the city are not spending the 15 hours per week of after-school time mandated for preparing lesson plans, correcting students’ work, research, reading etc. Many are treating those 15 hours as free time, school principals say.
