Students from classes VIII to XII will be trained to boost confidence
With a view to teach self-defence techniques to teenage girls study ing in government and private schools, the zilla parishad (ZP) au thorities have announced a new initiative -Smart Girl. As per this programme, teachers will be trained with various activities related to self-defence. These hand-picked teachers will provide training the students from classes VIII to XII.Daulat Desai, chief executive officer (CEO) of ZP, said, “The girls from semi-urban and rural ar eas face harassment within and outside school premises. This training will boost their confidence. They would be liable to deal with a bad situation. In cities, schools usually have such kind of coaching for their wards. But, in the fringe areas, such facilities are not available.“

The ZP has also developed a syllabus with the help of few civil service societies working in the field of education and women empowerment.

Talking about the initiative, Vishwasrao Deokate, ZP president, shared, “We aim to train over 3.5 lakh female students. We have finalised the structure of a two-day course for lady teachers as well. Apart from self-defence techniques, personal hygiene, social awareness and personality development are part of this syllabus.“
