ICSE schools told to detect learning disabilities

Schools affiliated to Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations in the country will have to detect learning disabilities among their students and take suitable pedagogical and other measures to overcome them.Bombay high court had in May directed schools to screen children for learning disabilities (LD) from age nine, while they are still in primary school. Wrong paper given at ICSE exam, Art II test now on April 7

Mumbai : The council for the ICSE has rescheduled the Art Paper II exam with a new set of questions. The Art Paper II, which was to be held on March 25 will now be held on April 7.

The paper has been rescheduled after an invigilator at a city school erroneously distributed the Art Paper II exam paper instead of Art Paper I to a few students on March 18. Read the rest of this entry »

Mumbai : In a watershed decision, the Central Information Commission (CIC) has brought the private ICSE board under the purview of the RTI Act. The ruling implies that lakhs of students can now get copies of their answer books and also apply for re-evaluation -a provision that was not available to them earlier.

Providing justice to ICSE candidates across the country, the CIC stated that the board could not perpetuate secrecy around answer sheets and has no right or authority over answer sheets of students. Read the rest of this entry »

Excited about the news, students said it will bring a change from the boring reading that they have been doing so far.

As news of the inclusion of contempary literature books and comics like J K Rowling’s Harrry Potter series, Asterix and Tintin in school syllabus spread like wildfire, students, parents and educationists welcomed the move. The new syllabus was announced by the Council of Indian School Certificate Examination that conducts ICSE and ISC exams and the popular reading is being introduced into the revised syllabus for Class III to Class VIII. ICSE may detain poor-performers from Class VI

The Central Advisory Board for Education’s recommendation to amend the “no-detention“ clause in the Right to Education Act and reintroduce pass-fail system from Class V has struck a chord with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination.

Gerry Arathoon, chief executive and secretary of the council that conducts ICSE and ISC exams, said in Kolkata they would want to put in place a cumulative assessment system from Classes VI to XII, based on a comprehensive continuous evaluation process. Read the rest of this entry »

Mumbai : 90 Percenters Jump, May Push Up Cut-Offs

The first and the second all-India ranks in the Class XII ISC examination were secured by Mumbai students. Class X ICSE students, too, made the state proud by securing two of the four second rank positions and six of the 10 third rank slots. Tech use helps council advance ICSE, ISC results by two weeks

Pune : The Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations will declare the results for standard X (ICSE) and standard XII (ISC) on Friday at 3pm, two weeks earlier than the previous years.

This year, the council in troduced the live ink character recognition (LICR) technology, where examiners use a repurposed digital pen and a tab to evaluate answer scripts which has helped the council publish the results faster. Read the rest of this entry »
